Most people go during April or May. In winter cold and hurricane force winds keep people from coming. In the summer there are monsoons which create Intense storms and violent precipitation. The whole trip usually takes about 4 days. It starts by hiking to base camp at 17,600ft elevation. Then passing through Khumbu icefall making use of ropes and laters to get to camp 1 at 19,900ft. To get to camp 2 at 21,300ft you have to pass through glacier valley. Then to get to camp 3 at 24,500ft you have to climb the Lhotse face. After that to get to camp 4 at 26,000ft you have use ropes again to get across the Geneva. Finally to reach the summit you have to hike to the "balcony" which provides a place to rest. After that you proceed to the Cornice a horizontal face of snow and rock which must be climbed with fixed ropes. After that hike a short ways to the summit. |
